Ricky Gervais' Golden Globe Insults: "There Are No Rules," Says Awards Show Producer

Ricky Gervais, Golden Globes Virginia Sherwood/NBC
More from Marc Malkin

If last year was any indication, this Sunday's Golden Globe awards will be filled with hilarious—and some offensive—comedy from host Ricky Gervais. But that doesn't mean the show's head honchos are cracking down on the comedian this year.

"There are no rules," Dick Clark Productions' Executive Vice President of Television Barry Adelman told us earlier today. "We know what he does, and we're just as interested to see it as you are."

However, there's one Golden Globe nominee who isn't so excited for Gervais' personal jabs and jokes...

As we mentally prepare for whatever shenanigans Ricky Gervais has up his sleeve for this Sunday's Golden Globes, the host—who will be doing the gig for the second time around—stopped by Ellen (airing tomorrow) to chat about last year's controversy and why he agreed to come back for another shot.

So why did he?

Is Ricky Gervais Getting a Golden Globes Makeover?

Ricky Gervais, Twitter Twitter

Ricky Gervais is ready for his close-up all right—just as soon as he gets a little nip/tuck.

Prepping for his return stint as host of the Golden Globes, the funnyman took to Twitter yesterday to joke about the makeover he's supposedly giving himself after last year's uproar when he took heat for skewering nominees with a slew of harsh zingers.

While he'll presumably have less wrinkles, one thing's for sure—he hasn't lost his bite!

Patrice O'Neal, Amy Schumer, Jon Lovitz Christopher Polk/Getty Images

If you like to laugh, you're going to miss Patrice O'Neal. And his fellow comedians may miss him even more.

"One of my favourite stand up comedians. So sad. RIP," Ricky Gervais tweeted Tuesday upon hearing of O'Neal's death at 41 due to complications of a stroke.

"Brilliant, unafraid, unapologetic. You inspired me and kept us all honest ," wrote comedian Amy Schumer, who shared the dais with O'Neal at the Charlie Sheen roast in September.

Ricky Gervais is back!

No, we're not referring to the big announcement last week that the funnyman will be returning to host the Golden Globes in January. (Although that, in and of itself,  is pretty cool.)

Rather, we're talking about today's release of The Office: Special Edition, a new DVD set celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the series that ran in the U.K. from 2001-03 and inspired another little program here in the states (and elsewhere) by the same name.

Sure, the episode clip above reminds us how the series was both groundbreaking and hysterical. But in an exclusive first look at one of the collection's special features, it's revealed that it definitely took viewers awhile to get used to the show's documentary-style format. See what we mean after the jump!
