Men in Black 3 Solid in Midnight Screenings—but Will It Have Enough Juice to Take Down Avengers?

Men In Black 3, Will Smith, Josh Brolin Columbia Pictures

The boys are back in town time, but do Agents J and K have the right stuff to neutralize a bunch of superheroes at the box office?

Based on the $1.5 million that Men in Black 3 grossed from midnight screenings last night, the oft-plagued threequel doesn't come anywhere close to the $18 million The Avengers tallied from its midnight showings a few weeks ago.

But there is some good news.

Kristen Stewart, On the Road, Robert Pattinson, Cosmopolis Nomadic Pictures, Alfama Films

The reviews are in and by most accounts, Robert Pattinson acquits himself nicely in the Twilight heartthrob's most critically lauded performance to date starring in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, which premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival Friday night.

The big question: will Twi-hards will embrace the R-rated romp or at least Pattinson's naked torso in it?

There are clearly no hard feelings to avenge here.

Despite having handed over the reins of the Robert Downey Jr. money-printing franchise to another director, Jon Favreau is still keeping a, well, iron in the fire, as it happens, signing on to reprise his role as Tony Stark's bodyguard and de facto sidekick in Iron Man 3.

Movie Review: Men in Black 3's Will Smith Is Still Fresh When Battling Aliens in the Past

Men In Black 3, Will Smith, Josh Brolin Columbia Pictures
Summer Movie Guide Tile & Brick

Review in a Hurry: When his partner K is erased from history, Agent J must time travel to 1960s New York to save him and prevent an alien invasion. The series returns with great eye candy, good 3-D and more sci-fi comedy hijinks. Will Smith is funny, but Josh Brolin as young Agent K is so exceptional at mimicking the tight-lipped Tommy Lee Jones that he steals the show. If only the story had unforgettable moments. Or have we been neuralized?
