Lindsay Lohan

Age: 28; July 02, 1986

Lindsay Lohan is one of this generation's most talented actresses. Unfortunately, her struggles with drugs and alcohol, and problems with the law, have overshadowed her promising career.

She started in the industry at an early age, signing with Ford Models when she was only 3. As a child, she appeared in more than 60 commercials, including a spot for Jell-O with Bill Cosby. Eventually that led to a role on the soap opera Another World in 1996.

But the actress didn't really experience the spotlight until  she starred as identical twins in the Disney remake The Parent Trap in 1998. The film was a success and Lohan was praised for her strong performance and poise at such a young age. Afterward, she signed a three-year contract with Disney starring in Life-Size and Get a Clue. Her next film Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis made more than $110 million dollars worldwide. The following year, Tina Fey's Mean Girls solidified Lohan's position as Hollywood's new It girl. The film made $86 million at the box office in its initial run and continues to be a fan favorite. Then the actress stepped out of her comfort zone and released her first album Speak, which went platinum.

The instant fame did not come without scrutiny. At 17, the star started coming under fire for her excessive partying. In January 2006, Vanity Fair reported that Lohan admitted to having bulimia and taking drugs during the cover interview. The star denied the claims. Several months later, she was hospitalized during production on her latest film Georgia Rule for dehydration and exhaustion. The movie's producer sent her a fiery memo stating, "We are well aware that your partying is the real reason for your so-called exhaustion."

Later that year, both Lohan's rep and mother confirmed that the star had been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. They asserted that it was a positive move for the seemingly troubled actress. However, by January 2007 she had checked into rehab. She returned to rehab for a second time in May of that year after being charged with a DUI for crashing her Mercedes Benz.

Several months later, Lohan was arrested and charged with another DUI, possession of cocaine and driving with a suspended license. After her third stint in rehab, she took a plea deal and served community service and 84 minutes in jail.

Lohan's legal woes continued when she was sentenced to wear an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet after missing a court date. She was sent back to jail after the device was set off at an MTV after-party in 2010. This time served 13 days in jail and completed court-ordered rehab. Several weeks after leaving rehab, Lohan failed a drug test and ultimately went back to rehab for yet another stint.

In 2011, she was charged with felony grand theft after being accused of stealing a $2,500 bracelet. She was found guilty of violating her probation and sentenced her to four months in jail and 480 hours of community service. In November, she landed back in jail for a fifth time after violating her probation. After posing on the cover of Playboy in December, the star continued to make headlines in 2012 for her behavior. She was arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident in New York City after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with her Porsche.

She took her first major role in years portraying Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime biopic Liz & Dick. However, her performance drew negative reviews from critics and fans alike. She was back in hot water later after she got in a car accident and was charged with lying to the police. To avoid jail, Lohan accepted a plea deal in March 2013 for 90 days in locked-down rehab.

After her release, Lohan seemed to be on a better path and promptly returned to work. While promoting her new film The Canyons, the actress sat down for a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey. The pair also teamed up for a reality series that will chronicle Lohan's life and sobriety. It is slated to premiere on Winfrey's OWN network in March.
