You'd think that after playing a lawyer on the small screen, Kim Delaney would know a little something about not breaking the law.

The former NYPD Blue actress and star of ABC's Philly was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of drunk driving near her home in Malibu.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies say Delaney, 40, was taken into custody around 7:50 p.m. when a motorist called 911 after allegedly seeing her weaving while she was driving around Malibu.

"[The motorist] followed her to the house," Sheriff's Sgt. Peter Charbonneau tells Reuters. "He was on the phone with us. Deputies arrived at the house. She ultimately came out and the citizen identified her as the person who was driving."

After rejecting a request to take a blood-alcohol test, police took her down to the Malibu sheriff's station, where she was booked on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and issued a citation.

Delaney was finally released at 1 a.m. Sunday. She now has a March 27 court date in Malibu.

Delaney, who got her start in daytime television with a role on ABC's All My Children from 1981 to 1984, won an Emmy in 1997 for her portrayal of hard-nosed detective Diane Russell on Steven Bochco's groundbreaking Blue. She left the show at the end of the 2000 season to take the lead in another Bochco series, Philly, playing an aggressive legal eagle and single mom seeking justice on the gritty streets of the City of Brotherly Love.

With her arrest, however, Delaney now joins an elite roster of Hollywood stars busted on drunk-driving charges, including Tim Allen, Kelsey Grammer and Beverly Hills, 90210 alums Shannon Doherty and Jason Priestley.
