Long before they ever traded opinions on American Idol, Paula Abdul opened her L.A. home to Kara DioGuardi when the songwriter needed a place to stay. And so, DioGuardi took up residence at Casa Abdul for a while—minus the time she spent in the hospital, that is!

Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is on the receiving end of a civil suit filed by a man who claims he suffered serious neck injury when a BMW driven by another woman smashed into the back of his Porsche last May in Los Angeles.

Looks like Kara DioGuardi won't be collecting unemployment.
The ex-American Idol judge, who was forced out by producers after just two seasons with the show, has signed up to break down songwriting contestants as the head judge on a new Bravo songwriting competition, the network has announced.
So what will the new show be like?

Kara DioGuardi and American Idol officially parted ways Friday, sparking interest in what was behind the split.
While both sides are staying mum on those circumstances, and DioGuardi claims it was "the best time to leave Idol," we can't help but wonder if the songwriter was actually ready to part ways with the show…or if she simply got the boot.

Songwriter judge Kara DioGuardi has officially been eliminated by American Idol, after just two seasons with the show.
The separation was announced by a press release distributed by Fox at 5 p.m. on the Friday before a long holiday weekend, effectively burying the news for days, if not forever.
So what platitudes did DioGuardi and Fox exchange in their official breakup announcement, and who pointedly did not comment on Kara's exit?

On the heels of Ellen DeGeneres' maybe not-so-sudden departure from American Idol come reports that Jennifer Lopez is close to signing a contract to be the show's new judge.
All official channels, including Lopez's rep, Fox and producer FremantleMedia, are remaining mum at the moment, but Deadline Hollywood has a source saying J.Lo's manager, Benny Medina, put the deal in motion a month ago.
Lopez, who has served as a guest mentor and performed on Idol in the past, would be quite the glamorous—and, we would imagine, costly—addition to the panel. And she might not be the only one...
