Attention, Everyone (Except Ricky Gervais)! Golden Globes Date Announced
It's probably safe to say we know what Ricky Gervais won't be doing on Jan. 15, 2012.
Just a couple of days after the Academy revealed when the Oscars would be held, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced that the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on the date above.
Nominations for the big show that honors achievements in both movies and TV will be unveiled Dec. 15.
In other words, there's still plenty of time to try and get Gervais to return as host. Under one condition, of course.

Ricky Gervais is claiming the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has already asked him to consider a third go-round at the Golden Globes, despite all the backlash after his controversial second stint when he bashed Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and pretty much everyone else in the room (not to mention those who weren't).

When Laura Linney's name was called out as the winner of the Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, at the Golden Globes this weekend, The Big C star was nowhere to be seen.
And not because she chose an inopportune time to hit the ladies' room.
Instead, presenters Blair Underwood and Vanessa Williams were left to accept the award on her behalf with nary a mention of Linney's whereabouts, or the usual explanation that she was regrettably on location. Because she wasn't.
So what happened?

For the second straight year, Brit actor/comedian Ricky Gervais killed it hosting the Golden Globes telecast. And it got me thinking...he's so bitingly funny (and ribald), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association should just go ahead and anoint him the permanent host of the annual awards. I mean, any host who is willing to alienate the entire celebrity community for the sake of entertaining fans (aka The People Who Really Matter) deserves a promotion. We love our celebs, but we also love to poke fun at them.
Ricky, a draft beer standing at attention on his podium for much of the night, spared no one during Sunday night's show. In so doing, he gave me five very compelling reasons why he should be back next yea—and every year after that, for that matter:
