Tonight's Dancing With the Stars featured a performance we may never forget.
During Monday night's all-new episode, Laurie Hernandez and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were set to dance the foxtrot. But before hitting the dance floor, viewers at home learned that the Olympic athlete had just experienced one emotional week.
In the pre-taped segment, cameras followed Laurie as she visited her grandmother in a nursing home.
"My grandma suffers from Alzheimer's so her memory is not that great. I kind of feel bad, I've been away from home, so I haven't been able to see her as much as I used to," Laurie confessed to the cameras through tears. "She's not doing very well, but I think I'm going to see her very soon."
One day after the interview, Laurie's beloved family member Brunilda Hernandez would pass away.
With the support of her partner, Laurie was able to perform during Monday's show and deliver an unforgettable tribute to her grandmother.
"First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss," judge Carrie Ann Inaba shared while wiping away tears. "Using all that emotion and channeling it for something beautiful for all of us to watch. You represent the American dream, and also the Dancing with the Stars dream."
Julianne Hough added, "I'm choosing to smile right now, with tears of joy and happiness, because I know that that's exactly what your grandmother is doing right now. We should be celebrating her life and how incredible you are. And tonight, not only has your performance exceeded everything you do technically, but this entire journey for you, you have grown into the most beautiful young woman, and you should be very, very proud of yourself."
As audience members and viewers at home wiped away tears, Laurie was awarded a perfect score. She also received support on social media from close friends including her Final 5 teammate Aly Raisman.
Perhaps host Tom Bergeron summed it up best before tossing to a commercial break.
"That was the most amazing display of courage I've seen in 23 seasons," he told Laurie. "And I hope you could feel that 700 people in this room and countless more were sending you energy all through that dance."
Dancing With the Stars airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC.
