The Vampire Diaries is coming to an end after eight years—but since the show was renewed for a final season, the cast has some time to look back on their journey before it ends.

When E! News visited the cast on set in Atlanta, we quizzed the cast on their season one memories to see how much they've retained of the previous seven seasons. Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley share their memories above, including Somerhalder's first scene appearing on Stefan's balcony ("It was a lot of fun! It was also the first time I'd ever done wire work."), their first TVD on-screen kisses (Ian: "Did I make out with the crow first?"), and their first impressions of each other.

"If this thing goes, this guy's going to be my brother for five years, I was thinking," Somerhalder says of the first time he and Wesley met—at a dental fitting for their vampire fangs. Says Wesley, "We flew together to Vancouver to shoot the pilot and talked on the plane for a while when we got on, and now we hate each other! No, now we're good buddies."

Above, catch Candice King, Matt Davis and Zach Roerig reminiscing about their first times.

"The first scene you see Caroline in is in the hallway when she runs up to Elena to give her a hug and be so happy that they're back at school and it's after her parents' funeral," King remembers.

Davis recalls the anticipation of the first kiss between Alaric and Aunt Jenna: "I just remember being surprisingly nervous and awkward about it because I just march in there and just kiss her and assert myself," he says.

They also share their first impressions of Paul, Ian and Nina Dobrev, and Davis shares just how close he's become with Roerig. "He and I are more like brothers than friends at this point. We're definitely family."

Yes, these people really like each other. Watch both videos above and see how Somerhalder puts it best: "We all have just loved each other from the beginning. It's very, very powerful; I think it's very rare; and I'm very grateful for it," he says.

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
