Watch: Terrence Howard Reveals Why He ''Went Into Hiding''

We love to hate Terrence Howard's Empire character, Lucious Lyon, and we're not alone...even the 47-year-old actor admits he's a total "a--hole."

Yes, the star stopped by to chat with E! News' Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet at the 2016 Emmy Awards and revealed he took some time out of the spotlight in order to play his role to his full potential.

"I was in hiding for a bit," he explained. "Because you have to go to a dark place to find a character like Lucious. You try to figure out how you're going to play him and you're not really ready to talk about him. [But] now I feel more comfortable about him."

When Rancic asked what Howard could share with us about him, he didn't hold back: "He's an a--hole."

As is the case playing any character, especially a darker one like Lucious, it's difficult to step out of the role after work. In fact, according to his wife, Mira Pak, who joined him at the awards show, Howard struggles a bit with that.

When asked if Howard brings the character home, Pak admitted, "He does, quite often actually."

Howard chimed in, joking, "Yeah, I got people hanging in the bathroom!"

Speaking of their home life, the couple recently welcomed a baby boy into the world last month, Hero Valentino.

"We thought we were having a girl first," Mira explained of the meaning behind their son's name. "So we thought Hero was a pretty name for a girl. But we just kept it for a boy."

Howard added, "You get two gifts in the world: you get from your parents, life, the first one and a name, which is the second one. The second one lasts longer than the first. We should take the time to give our children a name that they can live up to, you know? So that's why we chose Hero."

So sweet!
