Someone's taking a magic carpet ride to Storybrooke!
In its sixth season, Once Upon a Time will welcome everyone's favorite street urchin Aladdin into the fold, it was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. At the close of the show's panel, co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis unveiled the first three minutes of the season premiere, which gave fans their first glimpse of the character, who will be played by Deniz Akdeniz.
And he won't be arriving from Agrabah alone. Jafar will be hot on his heels, though he'll look a little different from the Jafar we met in spin-off series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. This time around, the villain will be played by Oded Fehr (Covert Affairs). (Naveen Andrews, the franchise's original Jafar, was unavailable due to his commitment to Netflix's Sense8.)
Of course, that wasn't the only news to come out of the hour-long panel. Other highlights:
Evil Queen vs. Regina: Expect a face-off to these two sides of the same coin now that they've been separated. "The one thing [the Evil Queen] wanted most in the world is Snow White's heart and that will not stop," Kitsis revealed. This time around, EQ won't be so easy to defeat. "The evil queen is slightly different than she used to be," Lana Parrilla admitted. "She's now without a conscious, so she's pure evil—and a lot of fun!" That said, don't worry about Regina lacking in the fun department now that her evil side's been removed. "Regina's still sassy," Parrilla promised. "She's not gonna lose her sass."
Hope for Robin Hood?: While Kitsis revealed that Zeus' resurrection of Hook was a "one-time only Zeus interference," implying that we shouldn't expect the same for Robin, Horowitz did offer up some encouraging words. "Everything that was said about the Olympian Crystal was said by Hades, can we trust him?" he said said. "That's a question some of our characters should and will ask."
Same Ol' Hook: Is Hook the same guy he was before he died and was resurrected? According to Colin O'Donoghue, pretty much. "Now that they know it's true love with Emma, they're trying to figure out how to navigate being together," he added. "We might find out a few things about his past." And they might not all be great. "There is more of Hook's past that we delve into and some surprising secrets that have been harbored," Horowitz added.
