It's Back to the Beginning for The Good Wife, But "Landing" Never Takes Off

Hopefully this is the last time Alicia Florrick tangles with the NSA

Can we please be done with the The Good Wife's ongoing NSA storyline once and for all? Please? Is that too much to ask?

"Landing" never really took off. Instead of highlighting the interesting parts—Peter's arrest and the resulting press conference—The Good Wife instead gave us a meandering story about Delinger (guest star Zach Woods), the NSA and the Canadian equivalent, the CSE. The aboots flew fast and furious, but did we need this as one of the final episodes of The Good Wife? No, we didn't.

Alicia and Lucca went to Toronto to represent Delinger. The panel Alicia sat on about killing the ISIS recruiter came up again and ended up helping in getting Delinger asylum in Canada. They played the NSA and the CSE against each other. And don't worry, there was a goat video. THANK GOD WE GOT ONE MORE GOAT VIDEO WITH THE NSA. "No more goats. We're done with goats," Michael Urie's NSA character said. Hope they mean it this time…

Meanwhile in Diane Lockhart world—yes, there was finally some Diane Lockhart world in this episode!—our fearless brooch queen got jealous of Megan Hilty. Why did it take so long for Megan Hilty to be on The Good Wife? Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole) finally showed up again and announced he wanted to spend more time with Diane and officially move in together. They've been married for three years and only saw each other for 98 days. That makes sense. So Diane was tasked with helping him sell his business to Megan Hilty. The two already had a handshake agreement on the price, but Diane said it was undervalued, so she played hardball, even harder after she saw the perky blonde Republican saunter through her conference room door. After a little squabble, Kurt said he wasn't going to sell his business to Hilty's Holly because he loves Diane and knew it bothered her. He'd look for a new buyer. "You make me happy, Kurt," she said. The best part of this storyline was seeing 1. Diane at home. 2. Diane truly happy. She's spent so much of the show dealing with people out to get her (whether it was in her head or not) and protecting what's hers.

Peter got slapped with the cuffs by Mr. Schuester, who has made it very clear that he's not going to go easy on the governor. Alicia played the good wife once again and got him a jacket to cover the cuffs and a tie so he's not in his shirtsleeves. The divorce is still on, but she's not going to let Peter go down without some dignity. Things change, but some things remain the same. "So we're right back where we started, huh?"

Why didn't The Good Wife show more of the press conference with Peter? There has to be a deleted scene somewhere. I would've much rather had that than NSA/CSE/goats.

Speaking of the divorce, she Alicia told Jason she's getting a divorce, but she didn't want him to get weirded out by it. He did. He likes things simple. Whatever, she wants him and flat out said that. Good for you, Alicia.

While I appreciated some of the humor in this episode, it was incredibly uneven, especially for one of The Good Wife's final outings.

Gasp count: 1, when Megan Hilty showed up.

Some other things:
What is Cary doing eating lunch alone in a suit? I wasn't expecting sweatpants, but I guess when you have so many nice suits, you gotta do you.

"Everything in America is a national security matter."

"I don't like Canada. It's too clean. I always want to litter here."

The Good Wife airs Sundays, 9 p.m. on CBS.
