4:38 p.m.:  I almost considered skipping the pretelecast, but I was afraid if I did I'd miss some polka guy going gangsta on a classical-music engineer.

4:39 p.m.:  Yeah, so about that polka-classical music smackdown? Didn't happen.

4:41 p.m.:  One more thing I learned while waiting for the real Grammys to start:

The official after-show party will boast "15,000 hand-cracked eggs," "5,000 banana leaves" and "locally grown produce, dairy and meat."

4:42 p.m.:  I don't know about you, but when I think rock 'n' roll, I think 5,000 banana leaves.

4:52 p.m.:  In case you're wondering, the CBS telecast will present awards in 10 categories, or roughly one per hour.

4:54 p.m.:  I have just been handed tonight's show order. I don't know if I'm authorized to share this with you, but I'm going to anyway: Yes, kids, Andy Williams will be in the house.
