Presidential hopeful Barack Obama beat out two former commanders in chief for one of Grammy night's very first awards. During Sunday's pretelecast ceremony, Obama's audio recording of The Audacity of Hope overpowered audiobooks from Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter in the weirdly power-stacked Best Spoken Word Performance category.

Other early winners include Slayer, snagging Best Metal Performance; the Foo Fighters, for Best Hard Rock Performance; and kickass Canadian violinist James Ehnes, for Best Instrumental Solo Performance (with Orchestra).

Oh, and Kanye West has already won three awards, before the show even begins. He's nominated for eight.
