With two blockbuster roles in the can, Emily Blunt sometimes forgets about one other project still in progress—her pregnancy.
This year reads like professional and personal gold for the star, who has highly anticipated performances in The Huntsman: Winter's War and The Girl on the Train set for release in the coming months and a brand new second baby on the way. To top it off, rumors continue to place Blunt in the titular role of a future Mary Poppins remake. With such a whirlwind schedule, the Golden Globe-winning actress is experiencing a bit of pregnancy brain.
"The first pregnancy is the most self-indulgent thing in the world because you get massages and prenatal yoga and hypnotherapy CDs,"she told C Magazine. "During this one I forget that I'm even pregnant. I'm hoisting my 2-year-old around!"
While this is not the 33-year-old star's first baby bump, Blunt kept the news to herself for as long as she physically could.
"[The Girl on the Train] was actually more physical than I realized, which worried me a little, but I wasn't telling anyone until a little later on," Blunt admitted. "I told a couple of people like [co-star] Justin Theroux pretty early because he and I were doing some of the physical stuff together. He's my friend, and I think he knew anyway—you know how friends just have a feeling."
Though she's a deeply private mother to her daughter Hazel at home, when she's at work, the Devil Wears Prada star enjoys a bit of wickedness.
"You'd be surprised by how much I enjoyed [playing an evil queen] and how easy it was to be this person, which is worrying," Blunt joked. "She's not just this rampaging villain. She's actually someone who, as delusional as she is, is thinking she's doing the right thing—and that was exciting to me."
As her marriage to John Krasinski rounds the corner on six years, she has yet to join the former Office star on screen. While they're not adverse to working together on a project, they want to keep their real-life romance off-camera.
"I think we would prefer it to be something where we're not married or boyfriend and girlfriend," she admitted. "Our chemistry is not up for public consumption. We'd like to do a play. That would be cool."
After more than a decade in the industry—and a resume packed with romantic comedies, adventures, indies, a Victorian drama and even a musical—it seems there's nothing Blunt cannot do.
"When people say, ‘what do you want to do next? Who do you want to play next?' I really absolutely have no idea," she concluded. "I love the surprise element of the job. I love to be surprised, and love to hopefully surprise."
