Despite a reported $2 million worth of jewelry being stolen from Paris Hilton’s bedroom on Friday, mom Kathy encourages her daughter to stay positive.

"She and I were talking about it, and really, it is stuff," Kathy told E! News in an exclusive TV interview Saturday in the living room of her Beverly Hills-area home. "I'm just happy that she's OK. But you can't be possessed by your possessions. Those are just things. And I'm happy that she's OK."

As to what happened that night, Hilton added,  "I think the police are investigating it right now. You'll probably know before I do."

E! caught up with Mrs. Hilton Saturday night after she hosted a three-hour auction for America's Auction Network in her living room to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Hilton matriarch helped raise more than $40,000 for the charity.

Daughter Paris and rocker Avril Lavigne were on hand to help auction off items such as a meet-and-greet with the Jonas Brothers, sneakers signed by the cast of Entourage, and the top-earning item of the night, a guitar designed and signed by Lavigne, which fetched more than $4,000.

Dressed in holiday attire, the Hilton family seemed to be ready for Christmas.

"I make a very special Christmas brunch. And I start early in the morning because I like the smell of the turkey cooking. And I like to have the parade on. And then I do a big buffet on the table," Kathy said.

And don’t worry about Kathy Hilton stuck at the mall with the masses this weekend; she started her Christmas shopping in October!

"Nicky wanted me to get her this photograph," she said. "It is of a beautiful swan because she loves swans, so I got her that. And Paris, I am going to get her a very cool faux fur coat. Like a bomber jacket."
