Alicia Vikander received nominations in two categories for the 2016 Golden Globes, and she still can't believe it.

"It's very overwhelming and was a big whirl yesterday when I found out," she tells E! News exclusively. "It all felt very surreal. You don't expect your name to be called."

But called it was—twice! Vikander is up for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for Ex Machina and Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for The Danish Girl. A sci-fi film, Ex Machina tells a very different story from her other project, which stars Eddie Redmayne and tells the story of one of the first sex-change operations.

"For me it's been such a journey to be able to work on both of these films, which are so incredibly different," Vikander says.

The actress heard the news while she was doing press for The Danish Girl, so there wasn't an early wakeup call for her. "I had all bags packed and I finished and I came out and my publicist stood there with just a big smile on her face and told me the news and told it again and I couldn't really believe it," she says with a tone that still reveals her surprise and excitement.

"I was jumping down the stairs," she adds. "I called my parents."

Even though she was on the job when the news broke, Vikander was able to celebrate with some members of the crew. She's also looking forward to going home for the holidays where she'll be able to celebrate with her big family and let the news sink in.

"To have something like this happen is something you would never have expected. I'm going to take a moment to get my head around and really enjoy that," she says.

But is she already looking ahead to the Oscars? "I'm really looking forward to Christmas. I'm going to go home and see my family and all those other things ahead is something you can't think about."

While home she's going to be immersing herself in the kitchen, where she'll be helping out with the preparations. A passionate cook, Vikander tells us she'll be making pickled herring among other dishes.

"We're going to build everything from gingerbread houses and cook traditional Swedish dinner," she says. "We have a few days, which is good. We're quite a big family."

Once the holidays come to an end, she'll be going right back to work with Matt Damon, who also nabbed a nomination for The Martian. When she found out he was also in the running she tried to call him but unfortunately couldn't get a hold of him.

They'll just have to celebrate while filming their Bourne sequel.
