Jimmy Kimmel has the ultimate list of A-list connections—he can even call in a ghost for a favor.
During Tuesday night's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the veteran late-night talk show host unveiled his latest prank for his audience. Instead of taking candy from babies or catching people on the street in a lie, he instead let his team of pranksters loose on the roommate of one of his writers who is very afraid of ghosts.
"His name is Mitch. He believes in ghosts and fears ghosts," Kimmel introduced the segment. "Jack [his writer] decided he wanted to help Mitch confront his fear, just like they did on Tyra—head on."
The sequence cut to the setup at Jack and Mitch's house. It was an hour before midnight and Mitch, a tall man with a full beard, was settling onto his couch in the living room for some late-night relaxing with his headphones on. Jack, his much shorter roommate, was his bedroom as a secret team that included a director, producer and special effects experts set up beneath the house's floorboards. When the team called "action!," the spooky festivities began.
First, one of the tricksters waiting underneath Mitch hit the floorboard with a large tube, causing a noticeable bang. Mitch, visibly shaken, immediately looked around, called out to his roommate and texted a friend to ask if there was an earthquake.
Next, a few wall scratches grabbed Mitch's attention. He got up, turned on the lights, walked around the house and banged on the front door. When he heard another slam, he called out to Jack again, asking if he was banging anything in his bedroom, to which Jack replied that he's been sleeping.
When the team started to play a piano, Mitch got more agitated, convinced it's a branch making noise outside.
"If I here more stuff, I am going to wake you up," he screamed out to his friend.
After the team makes an even weirder sound with steel, Mitch freaked out, screaming to his roommate claiming that there is a wolf or something like it on the floor and mimicking all the sounds he'd been hearing.
"I am going to go crazy. I am going to start crying. I swear to God," Mitch told Jack. "Don't close that door! Are you serious?"
The cherry on top of this hysterical prank was when the team starts filtering smoke into the apartment, causing Mitch to flip out and start cursing as he screamed for Jack and climbed on top of the couch to escape the cloud engulfing the room.
It was only until Jack comes back out of the bedroom charging at Mitch while wearing a classic sheet ghost costume that Mitch realized the entire ordeal was just one big joke.
"You're an a--hole," he said in a tape of the aftermath. "Jimmy Kimmel is an a--hole, too."
"I think that's a very fair point," Jack chimed in.
