With the one-year anniversary of Joan Rivers' death a few days away, daughter Melissa Rivers has revealed how she and son Cooper ultimately laid the legendary entertainer to rest.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Fashion Police host explained that the two scattered some of her ashes during their annual family trip to Wyoming last month.

"[It was the first one] without my mom, and we scattered some of her ashes there so we can still be together every August as a family," she explained.

And when asked how she and Cooper are coping with the upcoming anniversary of Joan's death this coming Friday, Melissa told the show that she's just focusing on staying present.

"Cooper and I talk a lot about what would be the best way to honor her legacy, and the best way to honor her legacy is to be OK."

Before finishing, Melissa did add that she's been "kind of a disaster this week."

The understandably emotional time for Melissa and her son comes on the heels of another major milestone this week, the return of E!'s Fashion Police yesterday with a special MTV VMAs–themed episode featuring NeNe Leakes and Margaret Cho. (Celebrate Joan Rivers and look back at her legacy.)

Earlier this summer, Melissa explained to AARP The Magazine how it feels now to be a "solo act" without her famous mother.

"I was part of a comedy team. I was the straight man. And now I'm a solo act. That's the hard part. I'm trying to find my voice," she shared.

"I'm still in that deification phase. You miss even the s--ttiest things: I miss when she'd come in and rearrange my furniture and tell me how I ran my house wrong and criticize everything. I miss the criticism! I'm still in that phase."
