Vantagenews/AKM-GSISam Smith's vocal cord ailment has gotten worse and he is headed to surgery, which has prompted the cancellation of more concerts.
The 22-year-old "Stay With Me" crooner has announced last week that he had had to cancel his Australia tour after a "small hemorrhage" was discovered on his vocal cords. He took to Instagram on Thursday to give fans an update about his ailment.
In a photo message printed in eerie white letters on a black background, in all caps, he wrote, "Dear all: I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven't recovered and I am going to need surgery. I'm so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at. The doctors say I will be back in 6-8 weeks and I cannot wait to sing for you all soon."
He added alongside the image, "Bad news. I have my operation booked for next week, so getting really nervous. But by doing this in 8 weeks time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month thou, I can't speak for THREE WEEKS after the op."
Smith's website shows the following dates have been canceled:
May 7, Studio Coast, Tokyo
May 8, Studio Coast, Tokyo
May 10, Mall of Asia Arena, Manila, The Philippines
June 17, Olympia, Paris, France
June 18, Olympia, Paris, France
June 26, Grimaldi Forum, Monaco
"Very upset about Japan and Manila dates," Smith had said on Instagram three days ago. "I've just left Australia and I'm on my way to the states to see a specialist to see what to do from there...This is f--king horrid."
Smith's website shows that he is still scheduled to perform in the U.K., France, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland, Germany and the United States in July and August.
