InstagramMiley Cyrus is on a mission to #FreeTheNipple.
The "We Can't Stop" singer participated in an impromptu, NSFW photo shoot Wednesday with her friend Scout Willis, who has also championed cause via social media. The two bared their breasts for photographer Mert Alas, whom the pop star also posed nude for in W magazine's March 2014 issue.
Flashing her left breast (which she censored with a diamond emoji), Miley wrote on Instagram, "@mertalas go & get ur camera phone onnnnnn itZzzzz a Photoshoot ! Finally re-yiew-nighted wiff my bae." Mert also posted a selfie Miley had taken on her iPhone, writing, "Now @mileycyrus #wokemeup."
In another picture with Miley, Mert said he was "#drunk."
Perhaps the most provocative shot showed the "Wrecking Ball" singer flashing both of her nipples while wearing a sheer bodysuit. With her legs spread wide, she made a sexy face while covering her vagina. Scout, whose breast fell out of her blazer, placed her left hand just above Tallulah Willis' butt. "Moment @buuski @mileycyrus Cant take it!! Wont take it #LA #leavemyroom," Mert wrote.
Mert also published a close-up of Miley's left breast, and while he tried to hide her nipple using a red star, her areola was still visible. In another picture, he placed his thumb over Miley's right nipple as she wagged her tongue. "Free nipples free me @mileycyrus #love #lovenipples #mylittlethumb," he wrote.
Earlier Wednesday, Miley used Instagram to poke fun at a tabloid story.
Life & Style's Apr. 27 cover claims that she and Selena Gomez are "pregnant by the same man." Cyrus had a laugh at the magazine's false reporting, writing, "And by the same man we mean @justinbieber."
...But let's get back to Miley and Scout's risqué photo shoot.
Last year, Scout made headlines when she went on a topless protest.
"I didn't choose my public life, but it did give me a platform to help make body politics newsworthy," Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' daughter blogged. "Earlier last week I decided to do something kind of crazy. Instagram had recently deleted my account over what they called 'instances of abuse.' Which in reality amounted to a photo of myself in a sheer top and a post of a jacket I made featuring a picture of two close friends topless. For these instances of abuse, I was politely informed that I would no longer be welcome in the Instagram community."
"My situation was in no way unique; women are regularly kicked off Instagram for posting photos with any portion of the areola exposed, while photos sans nipple—degrading as they might be—remain unchallenged. So I walked around New York topless and documented it on Twitter, pointing out that what is legal by New York state law is not allowed on Instagram. What began as a challenge to Instagram and its prejudiced community guidelines became an opportunity for dialogue. Matters like the taboo of the nipple in the 21st century, public breastfeeding, slut shaming, fat shaming, breast cancer awareness, body positivity, gender inequality, and censorship have found their way into mainstream discussion," she wrote.
"There are also some people who would criticize my choice to relate nipples with equality at all," Scout continued. "To me, nipples seem to be at the very heart of the issue. In the 1930s, men's nipples were just as provocative, shameful, and taboo as women's are now, and men were protesting in much the same way...So why is it that 80 years later women can't seem to achieve the same for their chests?"
