Many of her some 27.2 million Twitter fans have posted messages of support, spurring the hashtag #GetWellSoonDemi to trend

UPDATE: Demi Lovato took to Twitter on Wednesday to comment personally about her health.

"Thanks for the get well messages.. The media likes to blow things out of proportion.. I'm fine!!" she said. "Nothing a little chicken soup can't fix!!"

Demi Lovato had quite the health scare this week, alarming her millions of fans, who have taken to Twitter to post messages of support.

The 22-year-old pop star was rushed to the emergency room of a hospital near Los Angeles after suffering from flu-like symptoms on Tuesday, her rep says. Lovato was examined and treated at the medical center for several hours.

"She returned home soon after and is feeling much better today," her rep told E! News on Wednesday.

The singer's medical diagnosis was not revealed. According to TMZ, her symptoms included difficulty breathing and she was given antibiotics, among other medications.

Lovato, who typically posts something new on social media almost every day, had before her hospitalization last posted on Twitter, where she has more than 27.2 million followers, and other networks on Monday. She usually updates her pages at least once a day. Last Saturday, she signaled in a tweet that she was feeling under the weather.

Over the past day, she has received numerous messages of support from fans. Many have used the hashtag #GetWellSoonDemi, spurring it to trend on Twitter on Wednesday.

Lovato has in recent days been working on her fifth studio album, the follow-up to her 2013 record Demi.

She is also currently on a concert hiatus and is set to resume her world tour in Australia in April.
