Laura Dern was born to be at the Oscars. And not just because she's a fantastic actress.

Before she was nominated for her first Academy Award in 1992 for Rambling Rose, Dern was hitting the red carpet at movie's biggest night when she was just barely out of her toddler years!

"I was seven," she tells Ryan Seacrest about her first Oscars. "I came with my mother, who was nominated for Scorsese film, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. And I was as terrified as my children probably feel right now who are here with me and their grandfather tonight."

Dern, who is nominated tonight her Best Supporting Actress role in Wild, kept tonight's event a family affair by bringing her father, Bruce Dern, who was nominated last year for his performance in Nebraska. And in case you want to keep track, between Laura Dern, her mother and her father, the family has seven Oscar nominations! So getting into the family business was kind of a no-brainer.

Watch: It's a Family Affair for Laura Dern at the Oscars

"Watching this amazing man and my mother's work and watching them collaborate with the greatest directors in the '70s [made me fall] in love with this craft that they made seem seamless and a part of our family story, so I feel very privileged," she says.

Dern looked gorgeous wearing a custom Alberta Ferretti gown, but it was her beautiful Bulgari ring that deserved the most attention.

"I have the privilege of wearing this ring that they made in honor of Cheryl Strayed 's mother Bobbi, who I played in the film, because she died of lung cancer. And turquois is the color of the American Lung Associate initiative Lung Force to raise awareness about women fighting lung cancer," Dern explains while showing off the show-stopping piece. "And I feel so honored because Sheryl's story is so amazing and her mother was such a bright light. So it's great to be here with my family and celebrate her amazing story."
