After revealing her breast cancer diagnosis in October, ESPN reporter Shelley Smith continues to empower and inspire those who are following her journey.

The SportsCenter correspondent has been giving supporters a play-by-play of her ongoing battle via social media, and today Smith showed that she has taken a leap in this fight by deciding to shave her head as she undergoes chemotherapy.

Shelley posted a photo of herself in the barber's chair with her new look on Twitter, and captioned the brave photo, "Getting clipped by the best!! World famous Chuck Taylor. Yesterday Shaw, today me."

She also followed up with a sweet picture alongside her daughter, Dylann, and wrote, "My daughter Dylann (the one w the hair) my moral support! I didn't cry!!"

"I now join the one in eight women who are battling breast cancer. Early detection will save my life. Tell loved ones," wrote the veteran sports journalist, who has been with ESPN since 1997, when announcing her diagnosis.

"My tough cancer treatment will begin in January. Until then, I spread the praise of mammograms and ultrasound. Early detection...And remember, the warning signs are not just lumps," added the Emmy winner, who has also authored several books. "Check for irregular shape, skin condition and pain. And follow up."

We think Ed Werder, one of her longtime colleagues, speaks for all of us when he tweeted, "Hey, @shelleyespn, it was never your hair that made you amazing. It has always been your heart! #BeatCancer."
