In Defense of Tom Cruise...Sort Of

Tom Cruise's business partner, Paula Wagner, has put out a statement in support of her longtime friend. (To their credit, they've worked together for more than 25 years, which is way longer than most Hollywood relationships.)

Too bad she doesn't seem to understand what she's talking about.

Paula starts by criticizing biographer Andrew Morton for his "disgraceful piece of gossipmongering" book about her buddy. "I am not a Scientologist, nor are most of the people Tom and I work with, but that doesn't mean I can sit by silently while he is attacked for his religious beliefs."

Got it.

But then she randomly goes off on the Scientology video clip that has been getting more play than a pantyless Paris Hilton.

"It's easy to mock an out-of-context video, but that doesn't change the fact that Tom Cruise is one of the hardest working and nicest human beings I have ever known."

Huh? Does she understand that the unauthorized bio is a totally different offense than the video Tom actually participated in? Or is she just trying to cover all manner of Cruise mockery?

If the woman's going to come out swinging, why not go after anyone who has ever had an issue with the man? For example, movie critics, Nicole Kidman's divorce lawyer and the kid who beat him up in fourth grade.
