Tonight is a turning point in Sam Smith's career.

The crooner is nominated for a whopping six Grammy Awards for his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, and was understandably overwhelmed on the red carpet today.

Smith stopped to chat with E! about his big night ahead, saying, "It's very, very surreal. It kind of feels odd with people like Beyoncé having the same [nominations as me], so I'm trying not to think about it."

He also revealed which award of the six he would love to win most, admitting, "For me, it's New Artist because you can only win that one once."

"I went on Wikipedia last night and when you look at all the people who won it, it was just incredible. So I'd love that."

Smith also shared that this album came straight from the heart, which he partially attributes for its massive success.

"Before I made this record I was worrying about my weight and wearing makeup and trying to sing certain songs," he told Ryan Seacrest.

"And the minute that I just didn't care about how I looked and starting singing about how I felt was when the music started to hit and it makes this whole experience more amazing because I'm not playing a character."
