Muhammad Ali is back home after being hospitalized more than two weeks ago and has "fully recovered" from his ailment, which doctors had originally diagnosed as pneumonia and now say was actually a urinary tract infection.

The boxing legend, who had suffered from Parkinson's disease for more than 30 years, was admitted to an undisclosed medical center on Dec. 20. His rep had said at the time that he had been diagnosed with a "mild case" of pneumonia and that his prognosis was good.

"Muhammad Ali was released from the hospital last night," a family spokesperson said on Wednesday. "After further observation and testing, doctors determined that Ali was suffering from a severe urinary tract infection, not pneumonia as originally diagnosed. The boxing legend has fully recovered and is now at his home."

"Ali looks forward to celebrating his upcoming 73rd birthday on January 17th with his family and friends," the spokesperson added. "The Ali family greatly appreciates the outpouring of support and continued well wishes. They also want to thank the team of doctors and nurses for their exceptional care."

The retired three-time world heavyweight champion, who was born Cassius Clay, is married to his fourth wife of 28 years, Lonnie Ali. He has seven daughters, including boxer Laila Ali, and two sons, including one he and Lonnie adopted.

Muhammad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1984, when he was 42. The ailment, which has no cure, has affected his speech. The boxing legend lives in Arizona with Lonnie, her sister and other caregivers, AARP Bulletin had reported last June.

"Everyone in this house is at his beck and call," Lonnie told AARP Bulletin. "Anything he wants, he knows we will do it for him. In a way, that's not good. I think that's why his voice is not as strong as it could be. We can read him—he doesn't have to talk."

"If there was ever anyone who always lands on his feet, and comes out smelling like a rose, it is Muhammad," she added. "It is his remarkable attitude toward life. He never has let anything stand in his way."
