Feathers: Will They Fly in 2008?

Late in 2007, little birdies started to pop up all over the red carpet.

From the subtle bustiers of Renée Zellweger and Ivanka Trump to the full-on featherlicious dresses of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kate Bosworth, we chirped in delight at the refreshing departure from the sequins and silk typically associated with glitzy evening wear.

But as the new year gets underway, we're wondering if this is a trend with staying power. Were the feathers a sign of troubled times: fight or flight? Perhaps it was just an experiment with new textures. Or do these stars really have a thing for wings?

For now, we'll just have to wait and see. As much as we adore this quirky trend, it's hard to predict what will soar during awards season. If the stars bypass the WGA-boycotted red carpet, this feathery flourish may never get off the ground.
