Even though we can't all be like Diane Von Furstenberg and marry a real-life prince, that doesn't mean that we don't have what it takes to be a princess!
Being a princess isn't just about having some fancy title or a grand palace to live in (although we certainly wouldn't complain)! Being a princess is a lifestyle, and if you choose to embrace your inner royalty, there's no doubt that you'll have loyal subjects bowing to you from every direction!
Here are 17 ways to live like the princess that you are...
17. Make sure you look fabulous at all times.
If you're going to act the part, you're going to need to dress the part. Do you really think people are going to take a princess seriously if she's wear sweatpants? Unless of course, they're Givenchy...
Whether it's a friend's party or an afternoon of errands, always make sure that you look polished and as close to perfect as possible. (Note: Don't forget to put on lipstick at the gym.)
You never know where Prince Charming could be lurking...
16. Learn another language.
DVF speaks four languages—English, French, Italian and Spanish (and that's not including a little German and Portuguese that she knows as well)!
Many princesses travel to other countries and faraway lands to improve diplomatic relations with other royals and important heads of state as part of the responsibilities that come with their title.
Even if all you're going to be doing is partying in Monaco, it'll certainly make it easier when you're ordering drinks at the hotel bar...or flirting with the cute cabana boy.
15. Treat yourself.
Every princess loves pretty things, so you should never be shy when it comes to pampering yourself or enjoying the finer things in life.
Debating over whether or not you should buy that cute scarf? Go ahead and...
14. Don't forget your entourage.
Have you ever seen a member of the royal family walking around alone? Not only is it dangerous (hence the security guards 24/7) but it simply isn't practical! That door isn't going to open by itself for you! And who's going to carry all of your heavy shopping bags after a long day at Barneys?
A princess must always surround herself with loyal subjects or an entourage of some sort. It's the princess way!
13. Own a tiara.
You don't want to be that "crazy" lady who wears her tiara to the grocery store, but as a princess, you are allowed to own one and you are allowed to wear it on special occasions.
Like your birthday. Because every woman gets to be a princess on her birthday.
12. Command the attention of others.
A proper princess knows how to command the attention of others simply by walking into a room. She doesn't have to be loud or make a big statement about it; her presence will simply attract the attention of others.
Although having someone announce your entrance with a Herald Trumpet certainly doesn't hurt...
11. Pamper your pets.
Your pets are an extension of you (to some of us, they're like our own children), so they must always look their best—especially if they're going to accompany you wherever you go.
Pets are like a form of bling that actually make you look better. Just ask Paris Hilton!
10. Throw fabulous parties.
As a princess, it's your duty to throw lots of parties and host various galas for your friends. If you can't throw a proper party, how can people trust you to rule their country?
Always pick the right venue, have a hot guest list, keep the Dom Pérignon flowing, and you'll hear people raving about how amazing your parties are...years later.
9. Practice proper etiquette.
Mind your manners and be sure that you know to distinguish the salad fork from the dinner fork. Know what topics to discuss and which ones to avoid.
A good dinner guest always gets invited back, not to mention that as a princess, you're not just eating for yourself. You're a representative of your people. So rep well!
8. Know how to get what you want.
Every princess gets what she wants and knows exactly how to do it.
It's not necessarily about asking for it; if you know how to work a room and can convince others into seeing things your way, everything will be handed to you on a silver platter.
7. Learn to appreciate the finer things in life.
If you're gonna roll with royalty, you're going to have to learn to appreciate the finer things in life.
Become a wine connoisseur. Learn to tell the difference between a Picasso and a Van Gogh. Start attending the opera. You get the point...
6. Dream big.
A princess should always remember that the sky is the limit and no dream is too big.
Always maintain a sense of motivation. It's the secret to leading a fulfilling and happy life. Get it, Girl!
5. Maintain your standards.
Never settle for less than what you deserve. You are a princess, after all.
4. Kiss a few frogs.
It sucks but every girl does it—dating a guy who is totally wrong for you. It's a rite of passage as you get a step closer to finding "the One."
Besides, that next frog you kiss just might end up transforming into a prince right before your very own eyes...
3. Handle everything with grace.
Even though you're a princess, you've got to learn how to handle the inner Diva. There may be moments when you get mad, but you never want to get all Bad Girls Club on someone. It's not good publicity for yourself.
Remember: Classy always wins.
2. Know your worth.
In order to love others, you've got to love yourself. By maintaining a strong sense of personal value and worth, you're ensuring that others will always treat you right.
Besides, it's just another excuse to spoil yourself when you need it most!
1. Master that princess wave.
If you win an award, are asked to speak at an event, or are crowned at some parade, you're going to need to know how to do the "princess wave."
You might be surprised by how often this skill comes in handy...
