Did The Monuments Men star steal this fabric from her recent war-themed flick?

On the plus side, if Cate Blanchett was in a total clothing bind and actually did make this coat out of an army parachute, we're incredibly impressed!

We can't imagine what scenario would lead to that sitch (something involving dropping out of a plane onto foreign land just before a red carpet event?), but for a quick job, this is better than the tube dress tied with rope that we'd whip up.

But the Blue Jasmine star in this wide-bottomed swing coat raises an even bigger issue than split pea green nylon on an A-list actress! There are coats and there are dresses—and the two should never be confused.

We realize this Academy Award winner is wearing her dress-shaped item with a belt, pumps, and no additional outerwear as if to suggest that it's a vintage cocktail frock—but we aren't fooled. That nylon material is from a '90s-era starter jacket, and there's enough material for this Aussie beauty to be wearing a second look underneath!

Cate almost always tops our best-dressed list, but this is a major swing coat...and a miss.
