One of the most anticipated of the three million new comic book TV shows premiered tonight, and while it wasn't our absolute favorite pilot, it definitely piqued our curiosity. There's something just so darn fun about prequels for well-established franchises. We can't wait for young Batman to develop his gravelly Batman voice, and for Gordon to become Commissioner and build that Batman sign, and for Robin Lord Taylor to grow into Danny Devito (that's how this works, right?).

While yeah, much of Gotham is meant to tell the story of how Bruce Wayne grew up to be Batman (and also the story of how cool and dramatic Ben McKenzie can be), it's also about everyone else in the Batman universe, from Catwoman to Renee Montoya to both of Jim Gordon's wives. Mostly, it's a lot of villains, and just from the pilot we can tell that some of these origin stories are going to be a lot of fun. So let's meet some of our future bad guys, shall we?

Fish Mooney: She's cool and evil and played brilliantly by Jada Pinkett Smith, but as one of Gotham's only original characters who is already a full-fledged villain, there's not a lot of origin story to be told (or at least not in this prequel).

Harvey Bullock: He's not exactly a bad guy so far, but good guys don't usually cozy up to known bad guys to make police work a little easier, and he certainly doesn't seem to be a big fan of one of the few known good guys, James Gordon. We love a good anti-hero, so this one could be good.

Poison Ivy: In this version, it looks like Poison Ivy is currently a young girl named Ivy Pepper with quite the green thumb. We saw a bit of the makings of a villain as her father was framed and killed for the murder of the Waynes. She's understandably not a huge fan of Harvey and James, or cops in general, so her villainous future is not too hard to imagine.

The Penguin: We saw the humble beginnings of Oswald Cobblepot's journey into villainy in tonight's premiere, after he snitched on his boss, Fish Mooney, to Gotham's major crimes unit, and then Gordon let him go instead of shooting him. He then killed a fisherman and stole his turkey sandwich. Total bad guy move, and we can't wait to see what he does next.

The Riddler: We have a weird thing with nerdy lab/computer techs turning into badass heroes (see: Arrow's Felicity Smoak) or villains. The Riddler may not be the most badass of all the villains, but we definitely can't wait to see what horrors lead the bespectacled Edward Nygma to the dark side.

Catwoman: She didn't say a word in the pilot, but she's definitely got the cat thing down, and the burgling. Will she talk next week? Or ever? That has yet to be seen, but we're very curious to hear what this morally ambiguous Batman classic eventually has to say.

So far, we haven't heard anything from the Joker (unless he was that comedian auditioning for Fish Mooney, which would be quite a fun surprise), and there are a lot more DC comics villains expected to show up as the show progresses, so the comic book fans in us are quite excited to see what's in store for next week!
