As if the news couldn't get worse for Britney Spears...

E! News has confirmed that the singer's father and newly appointed coconservator of her estate, Jamie Spears, filed a theft report with the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division, stating that several small personal items had been removed from his daughter's home in the wake of her hospitalization early Thursday.

The report was filed on Friday, shortly after the elder Spears was appointed by a court commissioner to oversee his daughter's affairs.

While the MIA items were described as valuable, it has not been stated what exactly those items were.

According to the LAPD, the investigation into the theft remains open, but no suspects have been named.

It was not immediately clear whether investigators have begun to question friends, employees or family members of the singer who may have had access to the home in the few hours between her hospitalization Thursday morning and the court order Friday afternoon establishing a conservatorship while the entertainer is hospitalized.

The theft reportedly occurred at Spears' home in the gated Summit community straddling Beverly Hills and Studio City sometime before Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet were appointed coconservators.

One of their first orders of business was to secure the power to change all the locks on the doors to Spears' home and to have the ability to remove anyone who may be residing on the premises.

E! News has learned that a security guard has been posted outside the home around the clock since Saturday. The guard is the first sign of private security since the singer got rid of bodyguards late last year. Two other security guards are stationed full time in the visitor's lounge down the hall from Spears' room at UCLA Medical Center.

The second order of business was to obtain a temporary restraining order against Britney's manager and confidant Sam Lutfi, preventing him from either contacting the performer or setting foot on her property. The order is good for 21 days.

Although the temporary conservatorship for Spears' estate is theoretically due to expire this afternoon, Jamie Spears and his attorneys are due to appear in court to seek an extension, commensurate with Britney's hospital stay.

Meanwhile, Spears' own legal team, reportedly with the support of Lutfi, is planning to challenge the request and reinstate Britney's control of her assets.
