Mo'ne Davis has become the first Little League star to land the cover of the prestigious magazine. (She is the fourth American girl ever to play in the Little League World Series, and the first since 2004.)
The Taney Dragons pitcher is currently headed to the Little League World Series, where she and the rest of the Philadelphia-based team will play against Mountain Ridge from Las Vegas later today.
The 13-year-old took to Twitter early this morning to thank her fans for all of their support throughout the season.
"I always told myself it will be one of us that will be this big, on tv & etc. its me now but watch out for these two next," she wrote, giving a shout out to two of her pals.
She also expressed her gratitude for her teammates, and acknowledged that her gender has played a role in the recent onslaught of attention, in a heartfelt message on Instagram:
"Some people don't realize that baseball is a team sport, not a single man/woman game. I understand I'm a girl player, but if it wasn't for my team I wouldn't be here right now."
Taney Dragons' manager Alex Rice recently gushed about the young phenomenon in an interview with the Times Herald, saying, "She's the coolest, most poised player on the team. She's unflappable. She really is. She's amazing. She doesn't get rattled. She's special."
