Did Tim McGraw's sold-out, heartwarming Atlanta show take a turn for the out-of-control late Sunday?

Actually, looks may be deceiving.

In response to a concert-clip-gone-viral of what could perceivably be McGraw smacking a fan who may have tried to grope him at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood, a rep for the country music superstar tells E! News that he was merely trying to keep his pants on.

"At the end of the night during the encore, Tim was singing out in the audience and someone firmly grabbed onto his leg and wouldn't let go as he was moving through the crowd," the rep said.

"He instinctively swatted to try and keep them from ripping his jeans (which they succeeded at doing!), and so he could get to more fans who were trying to slap hands with him before the end of the show. He didn't know who had grabbed him and was simply trying to keep his jeans from being torn."

In video footage posted by TMZ, it's difficult to see what's really going on, but you can kind of make out a woman slapping at McGraw twice, once in the knee and once closer to his groin area. (Let's just say, Faith Hill's hubby is really tempting fate by wading through the crowd like that every night).

It's even more difficult to see what McGraw did in return, but it appears that some type of security guide approaches the woman immediately afterward.

Either way, McGraw had won raves for a gesture he made earlier in the night, when he invited a young fan onstage during "You Are So Beautiful" and sang the sweet song directly to her.

Swoons all around.
