UPDATE: "It looks like he had a chicken burrito bowl," Chipotle's national office replied to E! News' request for comment. "No changes with regard to sneeze guard rules. He shouldn't have reached over it. An overreach of government, I guess."
Ordering at Chipotle is an exciting experience...the carnitas! The cheese! The pico de gallo goodness! When all that separates you from the contents of a glorious Mexican meal is a panel of glass, it's easy to get carried away and reach past that protective "sneeze guard" barrier—just ask Barack Obama.
Yes, the President of the United States of America committed a severe breach in dining etiquette on Monday when he overeagerly pointed at the ingredients he wanted in his burrito bowl—extending his entire forearm into no-man's land!
White House photographer Pete Souza tweeted photographic evidence of the hygienic offense, noting that the politician was grabbing lunch to go before addressing the White House Summit on Working Families. But just because the prez had somewhere to be (hey, don't we all?) that doesn't mean he can break the Chipotle code of conduct!
Backlash against Barack's bad manners flooded Twitter almost instantaneously. One user contacted Chipotle's corporate headquarters directly to address the leader of the free world's dining faux pas—and he got a reply! The miffed diner tweeted a screengrab of his formal complaint as well as the chain restaurant's humorous response in which they promised "make sure that Mr. President is well aware of our restaurant's guidelines!"
The customer service consultant also urged the complainer to "Just stay calm," writing, "I'm calmer than you are, dude."
To be fair, some of us take our Mexican cuisine very, very seriously.
