Vice President Joe Biden had to decline an invitation to a Connecticut prom after being asked by high school senior Talia Maselli.

Biden said that he was "flattered" by the request, but was unable to attend the dance.

Last fall, Maselli sent a handwritten note formally asking him to escort her to the senior prom.

"I am inviting you so far in advance because I'm sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it," Maselli wrote in the letter, according to the Hartford Courant. "I could only tolerate a high school dance if I was to be escorted by the most delightful man in America."

And just last week, the night before the big event, she received a special surprise delivery from the Veep himself.

Biden sent her a handwritten note as well as a stunning hand corsage for her to wear to the dance.

"I am flattered, but my schedule will not permit me to be in Connecticut on Friday evening," Biden wrote in his response to the teen.

"But I hope you will accept this corsage and enjoy your prom as much as I did mine."

And as a cherry on the sundae, Biden invited both Maselli and the rest of her family to the White House for a special tour.
