Jimmy Fallon is a man of his word.

After promising to take a freezing cold dip in Lake Michigan with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Tonight Show host jumped in on Sunday for the annual Polar Plunge.

"This is happening!! #PolarPlunge," Fallon posted on Instagram before the event began at Lincoln Park Zoo, along with a shot of a "Polar Plunge" sign surrounded by snow.

"I'm here Chicago! It is COLD. You are not making this easy. #PolarPlunge," he tweeted as well.

Cold is an understatement. An hour before the plunge began it was 10 degrees in Chicago, and when the event kicked off it was only 32 degrees inside of the lake.

According to the New York Daily News, the mayor went first, followed by Fallon, who took his dip wearing a full black suit, and jumped out drenched from head to toe with a seriously shocked look on his face.

"Officially PLUNGED!!!!! Thank you Chicago!!! Thank you Mayor. #polarplunge #coldneverbotheredmeanyway #frozen," Fallon posted on Instagram following the dip, posting a shot of himself in a red Special Olympics sweatshirt.

Every year, thousands of people suited up in parka, polar bear outfits and more gather for the daredevil Polar Plunge, which raises money for Special Olympics Chicago.
