Welcome to the Weekend Update desk, Colin Jost!

Jost made his highly anticipated debut on Saturday Night Live last night and received a warm welcome from his co-host, Cecily Strong, as well as the audience.

"Thank you guys," SNL's head writer said. "Before we start, I just wanted to say that I'm so grateful and excited to be here tonight. This is really a dream come true for me, so, thank you guys. Thank you, Cecily."

And with that, it was time to get to the top stories, including a fantastic joke that Piers Morgan is slowing morphing into a potato. Kenan Thompson (as Charles Barkley) and Jay Pharoah (as Shaquille O'Neil) joined Jost for some basketball analysis centered around Jason Collins and his recent return to the NBA.

Seth Meyers tweeted his support following Jost's first stint and wrote, "Great job by @TheColinJost on his first @SNLUpdate!"

Jim Parsons made his first appearance as host and provided a spot-on impersonation of figure skater Johnny Weir. Complete with a bright pink blazer, tight leather pants, plenty of jewels, a colorful fur and a bright feather headdress.

Beck took the stage twice, performing "Blue Moon" and "Wave."

(E! and Saturday Night Live are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
