Elizabeth Banks has been killing it on the big and small screens for years now—but will she hit the right note as a director?
We're going to find out pretty soon, because the Hunger Games and 30 Rock actress is going to direct Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 hit comedy about the fierce word of college a cappella singing in which Banks also played a judge on the competition circuit.
Sounds like music to our ears!
PP2 will be Banks' feature directorial debut—and the studio has the utmost confidence in her ability to fluorish behind the camera. Well, considering she masterminded the whole thing...
"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," said Universal Pictures chair Donna Langley. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect."
In addition to making it unable to stop humming Ace of Base's "The Sign" for days, Pitch Perfect also resulted in nearly triple-platinum sales for star Anna Kendricks' cover of the beyond-catchy "Cups."
Kendrick and scene-stealer Rebel Wilson are not officially onboard yet, but it sounds as if Universal is busy getting its altos and sopranos in a row.
All together now...
