2013 was an important year for the video game industry. The launch of Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One could have signaled the end of the current generation of consoles, but someone didn't tell Rockstar Games.
A half a decade in the making Grand Theft Auto 5 exceeded the insanely high expectations of gamers everywhere. Back in March, Lara Croft finally got the best title in her 17 year-old series. And just last month, Nintendo released both a Mario and a Zelda game.
Many took place in alternate universes (or post apocalyptic ones), while two games featured the father-daughter-like relationships ever felt in an interactive medium.
