The 20-year-old pop star—whose new single "We Can't Stop" is already a certifiable hit after its June 3 release—muses over her post-Hannah Montana image in a new YouTube video for MTV News in which she says she's often misunderstood by the public.
"People more think of me as a party animal," she admits. "Which I am a self-proclaimed party animal, but I'm also the hardest working person you'll ever know."
Hardworking, indeed, considering her new track climbed to the top of the music charts in less than 24 hours, and she's been working in the biz since she was a kid.
And although Miley is thankful for her Disney days as Hannah Montana, the "Can't Be Tamed" singer says the show masked her true persona.
"Moms remember watching their daughters watching the show [Hannah Montana] and kids remember watching the show, but that's not who they think I am," she confesses before adding, "People have a misunderstanding I think, actually people don't know though because I do so much on my own like putting out my twerk video even."
Cyrus also says she's proud of her sassy personality and she's happy to inspire others to not care what people think.
"The biggest thing people say to me is that ‘I love that you don't care what people think' because I don't, but in the best way possible," she explains. "Of course I want people to love my music, but at the end of the day I make music for me. I make music because I love it and I know that I put good energy into it, so it'll be all good."
