Daniel Radcliffe: I Hope to Be a Young Father

Daniel Radcliffe doesn't want to wait when it comes to starting a family.

"I'd like to get started on it before my thirties," the 23-year-old actor told Time Out: London magazine (as excerpted by People mag). "I like the idea of being a youngish parent so I've got energy to play football even though they'll be better than me by the time they're four," he quipped.

Although the former Harry Potter star admits he doesn't know "when or who" he'll have a baby with, he said he "definitely" wants children and plans on being a tough parent who "pushes their kids into things," but "not the film industry."

"I will have to find a very tall wife if they're going to be good at sports," the 5-foot-5 star jokes of his future children. "You could be my size as a boxer, you'd just have to be a super featherweight or something."

The Kill Your Darlings star also said his desire to have children grew out of watching his pals become parents and experience the new sense of purpose that comes with fatherhood.

"I've grown up around lots of people who were having kids when I knew them, because a lot of them were a lot older than me," he explained. "And I saw the wonderful change in them. I see that it gives you a sense of purpose that up till now I only really get from work. I want that [purpose]."

Babies aside, Radcliffe also shared his upcoming plans to get inked with a Beckett quote which reads, "Try again, fail again, fail better."

"That's what I'm about. I heard someone say growing up is about aiming to succeed but being fulfilled by failing very well. I agree with that 100 percent," he explained.

And he's also not afraid of filming another franchise, despite his best efforts to break out from his famous Harry Potter role.

"Franchise mustn't become a dirty word," he said. "If directors like J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon keep doing what they're doing, it won't be. I'd love to be part of one again. Maybe not leading it: a nice supporting role. In Star Wars? Yeah, that'd be awesome. That'd be crazy cool."

Are you listening, Mr. Abrams?
