The 38-year-old soccer star, who signed a five-month contract with Paris St.-Germain back in January, has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the season, the BBC reports.

"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue, but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level," Beckham said in a statement.

He added, "If you had told me as a young boy I would have played for and won trophies with my boyhood club Manchester United, proudly captained and played for my country over 100 times and lined up for some of the biggest clubs in the world, I would have told you it was a fantasy."

Beckham, who has two games left this season, had been offered an extension to his contract with Paris St.-Germain, but opted to leave the game permanently instead.

In other words, he'll soon have a lot more time to spend with his wife, Victoria Beckham, and the couple's four children.
