Eva Longoria Testifies at Senate Committee Hearing to Promote Minority Women Businesses

"If we invest in giving Latinas the tools to unlock their potential today, we can create a brighter economic future for our country," the actress stated

Eva Longoria is making her presence outside of Hollywood known. 

The celeb attended a Senate committee hearing today in Washington entitled "Strengthening the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem for Minority Women," where Longoria—who is an entrepreneur herself as she own two restaurants: Beso and SHe, and a production company, UnbeliEVAble—testified to encourage more support for Latina business owners.

"Diversity breeds innovation, and that is what our country needs right now," the actress stated. "Latinas are one of our nation's greatest natural resources, and we have to treat them as such. If we invest in giving Latinas the tools to unlock their potential today, we can create a brighter economic future for our country."

So what is the star going to do to help bring her testimony to life?

The Eva Longoria Foundation has teamed up with philanthropist Howard Buffett to launch a program, starting in Texas and expanding to California, which will provide business training and $2 million in micro loans to Latina businesswomen. 

Longoria tweeted, "It was an honor to testify at Senate hearing today about Minority Woman Owned Businesses!"
