The kid who played The Client may be about to become one in real life.

Actor Brad Renfro, 15, is free on $500 bond in his native state of Tennessee, after being busted on suspicion of cocaine and pot possession, the Knoxville News-Sentinel reports.

The arrest occurred early Wednesday, the newspaper says.

Contacted by the News-Sentinel at his home Wednesday night, the star of Telling Lies in America denied the paper's version of things.

"The answer is, 'No, I haven't been [arrested],'" he said from the porch of his home.

But a juvenile detention center official begs to differ. Richard Bean tells the paper that Renfro was taken to his facility by police and held there for 40 minutes Wednesday. He was released to the custody of his grandmother after posting the bond, Bean says.

As of late Wednesday, though, no charges against Renfro had been filed.

Renfro was a passenger in a car pulled over by police at 2 a.m. Wednesday, a local juvenile court official tells the paper.

A search of Renfro allegedly turned up substances believed to be cocaine and marijuana.

The actor was described by authorities on the scene as being glassy-eyed, officials tell the newspaper.

The car's driver, Mark S. Singleton, 19, said to be Renfro's cousin, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

Renfro, who turns 16 next month, made his film debut at age 12 in 1994's The Client, opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones.

Other credits include: Tom and Huck and Sleepers.

He'll be seen later this year in Apt Pupil.

"Everybody thinks I'm, like, a bad boy," Renfro told the News-Sentinel last year. "I've had my day, but I just sit at home and play the blues mostly."
