For the Baltimore-based National Federation of the Blind, the new Miramax film Blindness is no vision of loveliness. The Julianne Moore-starring project depicts blind people locked away in a mental institution where they soil themselves and trade sex for food. “The movie portrays blind people as monsters, and I believe it to be a lie," said Marc Maurer, president of the NFB, which is planning extensive protests. “Blindness doesn't turn decent people into monsters.”

While Miramax issued a statement saying, “We are saddened to learn that the National Federation of the Blind plans to protest the film Blindness,” Soup Blog sources claim to have off-the-record information from a high-placed studio representative: “Look, we’ll tell ’em we changed it. I mean, how are they gonna know?"
