Last week on Dancing With the Stars sure was eventful, wasn't it?
Well, not compared to tonight it wasn't!
But tonight, Maria and Derek Hough kissed.
The subject of much did-they-or-didn't-they-kiss speculation a couple of weeks ago and the continued target of are-they-or-aren't-they-an-item rumors, Maria and Derek full-on locked lips during their salsa. (And we thought the biggest Maria drama would be that she banged her chin during rehearsal!)
But although Bruno Tonioli asked if they needed a room and if he could join in, Carrie Ann Inaba thought the kiss was too much.
"Dance is about the illusion of passion," she chided the pair. "Don't go at it in front of everyone!"
Or do. Totally fine with us. Anyway...other people danced, too!
Melissa spent part of rehearsal in a neck brace—and Maksim Chmerkovskiy egged her on by calling her "grandma"—but The Little House on the Prairie star gamely handled all of the tricks he threw at her. Actually, the tricks were the best part of their salsa. Otherwise, she moved a little gingerly and Maks was the scene-stealer in a fluorescent-pink (and unbuttoned) shirt.
Jaleel White seemingly came storming back, with Len Goodman noting that his samba-dancing bum was "going like [he was] chewing a toffee." But surprisingly, he only ended up with a 24.
Gavin DeGraw, showing major improvement last week, tanked his samba and ended up in last place. "It was more of a sham-ba than a samba," Len quipped, while Gavin amiably admitted, "It was a struggle more than a samba."
On the flip side, Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas' Argentine tango—"dancing and choreograph of the highest quality," raved Bruno—were on the verge of the first 30 of the season, but Len held back with a 9.
Also part of the elite Argentine tango club were William Levy and Cheryl Burke—they got similarly enthusiastic feedback and tied Katherine and Mark atop the leaderboard.
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower also brought infectious and (dare we say) youthful energy to the salsa, although his "teenager with his first car" vibe doesn't always sit well with Len. But they really shouldn't be in trouble, because they were great.
"I'm not being a cougar—you're sexy in a Disney way!" insisted Carrie Ann.
Gladys Knight would of course like to stick around for next week's Motown Night—and there's a good chance she'll be here, since her samba out-scored Gavin's.
Wrapping things up, Donald Driver got one foot in the door of the elite Argentine tango club, earning a 10 from Carrie Ann based on his spectacular lifts, an 8 from Len and a 9 from Bruno.
Here's how the leaderboard stacked up:
Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas: 29
William Levy & Cheryl Burke: 29
Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd: 27
Maria Menounos & Derek Hough: 27
Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower: 26
Jaleel White & Kym Johnson: 24
Gladys Knight & Tristan MacManus: 22
Melissa Gilbert & Maks Chmerkovskiy: 21
Gavin DeGraw & Karina Smirnoff: 19
Tomorrow night, Train and Selena Gomez & the Scene perform, after which someone will go home following a dance-off between the bottom two couples.
