As Green Day gets older, its ambitions only soar higher.
After earning the biggest acclaim of their career for the punk rock operas American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool have announced that they're in the studio working on not one, not two, but three studio albums.
Dubbed ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, the discs will hit stores respectively on Sept. 25, 2012, Nov. 13 2012, and Jan. 15, 2013. And the band sounds like it couldn't be more excited about it.
"We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives. This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming," said the band in a statement. "Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves...We are going epic as f--k!"
Green Day will likely offer fans a taste of things to come this summer as they're set to headline several big music bashes starting with the Summer Sonic 2012 festival in Tokyo on Aug. 18 and Osaka on Aug. 19. The five-time Grammy winners will then head over to Paris for an Aug. 26 gig at the Rock en Seine festival and close out the brief run with Rock am See in Konstanz, Germany and the I-Day Festival in Bologna, Italy.
