DMX, the rapper-actor/jail magnet, was released from a Yuma, Ariz., prison today after spending seven months locked up for violating his probation.
So how'd he enjoy his first day of freedom?
According to AllHipHop.com, after he was met by a small coterie of family and friends, DMX (real name Earl Simmons) headed over to his probation officer to check in, then went on a little shopping spree. Along the way, he caught up with those closest to him and unveiled his plans to revive his dormant career.
"I'm feelin' good. I'm feelin' real good, man" the Cradle 2 the Grave star told the website. "I spoke to my daughter, I just got off the phone with my wife. . .I'm going to see my daughter while the sun is up, then I'm going to be in the studio, man."
Given that he's still on probation, DMX will remain in Arizona, though it's not known what part of the state he'll take up residence.
The Year of the Dog MC dug his latest hole in December 2008 when he pleaded guilty to identity theft, animal cruelty and drug charges stemming from his arrest in May of that year. DMX was subsequently sentenced to 90 days in the Big House and placed on a year-and-a-half of probation.
However, in November 2010, a Maricopa County court sent him back to the clink for another year after he admitted to his probation officer he violated his probation by using cocaine. He ended up serving only seven months after getting three months' credit for time served.
But DMX's habit and bad behavior landed him in trouble behind bars as well. Just last week he flunked a drug test along with a few other transgressions, prompting authorities to postpone his release by another week.
Finally free, AllHipHop.com reports that the Ruff Rider is in talks for a variety of film and TV projects and may cinch a deal with Maybach Music Group to record a new album.
