Southland is one of the smartest cop shows anywhere, and that's in no small part thanks to the supersmart actors who play the LAPD boots on the ground in the gritty TNT series. E! News just caught up with Michael Cudlitz, Benjamin McKenzie, Regina King and Shawn Hatosy at the Paley Center for Media, and the stars spilled about what's to come and what it means for them to get their latest series renewal. Cudlitz told Michael Yo, "We, by all accounts, shouldn't be here, standing here today making this show. And we are and it's a testament to the fans for letting everybody know that they really want it to stay on the air and TNT for really standing by behind something they believe in. We just couldn't be happier."

Plus, how will the series change now that the smaller cast is finally set for good?

Costar Shawn Hatosy tells us of the new character lineup, "That's the beauty of the show, that we get to reset like this. Put the two of us together after three seasons of doing other things. It creates other things, a very cool dynamic and I'm very curious to see what the writers have in store for us." And Cudlitz adds, "The characters are so, in my opinion, layered and multidimensional that you really don't know what's going to happen next. You think you know but you don't know. Because the show doesn't rely on a procedural storytelling technique, nobody has to fill a certain role, the funny guy or the sarcastic guy. Everyone has had those moments where they've been those characters because that's what really makes up real people."
