Just been rescued from a Chilean mine and looking for something to do?
Try taking on the New York Marathon.
Just a few weeks after Edison Pena was rescued after 69 days underground, the miner hit the famed 26.2-mile run through New York City, alongside celebs like Survivor's Ethan Zohn, Howard Stern cohort Robin Quivers, Meredith Vieira, Ryan Sutter, Al Roker, ER star (and longtime runner) Anthony Edwards, Fringe star Kirk Acevedo and chef Bobby Flay (not to mention sort-of celebs, like sandwich pitchman Jared Fogle).
Pena, who was nicknamed "The Runner" because of his six-mile-a-day runs through underground tunnels while trapped in the mine, finished the race in Central Park with a time of 5:40:51.
Running the marathon was particularly special for reality star Zohn, who got the news earlier this year that his cancer (a rare form of Hodgkin's lymphoma) was in remission. He told Watch With Kristin that he was "excited" to run the marathon this year.
The Survivor: Africa winner, who pulled out of the race last year due to his cancer treatment, told the New York Daily News that visualizing the finish line at the marathon helped him get through a difficult stem-cell transplant during that time.
"It kept me going," Zohn said. "I was like, 'This sucks, but I'm going to get through it. And once I get through it I'm going to run the marathon.'"
Zohn clocked in ahead of Pena at 4:16:20, but was that time fast enough to take home the title of fastest celeb in this year's marathon?
Not quite. Zohn was actually a few minutes shy of Food Network star Flay, who finished the race at 4:01:37, the second fastest time among the famous types. But it was Sutter of Bachelorette fame who outran them all, finishing up at 3:20:39. Coming in third was Edwards at 4:04:45, who ran to raise money for Shoe4Africa.
Fogle, the onetime Subway sandwich spokesguy, finished at 5:13.
Meanwhile, Vieira and Roker stirred up some friendly coworker competition. The Today show anchor beat out the weather guru with a time of 5:59 versus his 7:09.
Fringe's Acevedo had one of the most impressive celeb times, finishing in nearly three hours flat.
Congrats to everyone who crossed the finish line!
